On World Humanitarian Day, ‘I am a (female) humanitarian worker’*

In societies where religion or tradition dictate that women can only speak to or be assisted by other women, female aid workers are a critical element of any response team.

CARE and WWF made the call as country delegates head to Oslo for Thursday’s Climate and Forest Conference to ensure that any efforts to combat climate change by reducing forest loss take into account impacts on people and the environment.

CARE working to prevent sexual violence in Haiti
Port-au-Prince, Haiti , 30/1/2010 -- CARE is working to prevent and lessen sexual violence in the aftermath of Haiti’s devastating earthquake.
 
Incidents of rape and violence against women were high even before the earthquake, and rates of attacks have increased in previous disasters in Haiti, said Janet Meyers, CARE’s Senior Advisor for Sexual and Reproductive Health in Emergencies.

Tsunami: 5 years later
Aceh, Indonesia, 26/12/2009 -- The coastline of Indonesia was closest to the epicenter of the earthquake that triggered the tsunami, and more than half of the resulting deaths occurred in Indonesia. CARE urges grass root community to be self-reliant

Atlanta, US, 16/8/2007 -- In the wake of a massive 8.0-magnitude earthquake that rocked Peru on Wednesday evening, three CARE teams have been dispatched to affected areas to assess the damage and immediate needs of survivors. CARE staff has already distributed emergency supplies -- clean water, tools, medicine and blankets already on hand -- to some 200 affected families in Chincha and Tambo de Mora, two of the communities most severely affected by the earthquake.


CARE commissions external review of housing in Aceh
