Java Earthquake Response Program
CARE’s Java Earthquake Response Program provides emergency shelter and supplies; water purification solution for safe, clean water; support for local health care and disease surveillance; and an innovative market-based approach to provide food and household items to survivors through local vendors.

Conflict and Drought-affected West Timorese
In response to crop failures and a resulting food security crisis, CARE distributed food and provided emergency therapeutic feeding and community therapeutic care to malnourished children in affected areas of West Timor.

Assistance to East Timorese refugees in West Timor - 1999
After the political crisis in East Timor in 1999, more than 250,000 East Timorese fled into West Timor. CARE worked to rally support of the international community, and provided emergency food and relief supplies to more than 100,000 people, and supplementary feeding for vulnerable children.

Crisis in East Timor – 1998
As pre-referendum political violence began displacing people in East Timor in 1998, CARE responded by supplying food, safe water, seeds and agricultural assistance to conflict-affected displaced people, and helped communities recover and rebuild after the crisis.

Tsunami Response Program – 2004 to present
Since the tsunami devastated Aceh Dec. 26, 2004, CARE has helped more than 350,000 people in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar, and on the island of Simeulue. While CARE’s immediate response was the delivery of life-saving food, water and supplies, the Tsunami Response Program is now focused on a five-year development strategy dedicated to working with the people of Aceh to rebuild their homes, health care systems, water and sanitation facilities, livelihoods, schools, and community services.

Support to Conflict-affected people in Central Sulawesi – 2000
Ongoing episodes of communal violence in the Poso region of Central Sulawesi left more than 124,000 people displaced. In June 2000, CARE was one of the first international aid agencies to respond to the Poso crisis by providing emergency food and relief supplies to internally displaced persons.
