Legacy of Hope
It has been more than four years since the tsunami struck the remote island of Simeulue, December 26, 2004. It will take more than a few years to rebuild the lives of Simeuluese. Working closely with the Simeuluese, our work shall be seen beyond the houses, beyond the water pipes, or the ponds, or the cocoas, or rows of chillis… But rather, something else into the lives of the Simeuluese…HOPE
Cultivating a fertile future
As a result of peatland drainage and peat fire disasters, Central Kalimantan suffers from loss of resources, loss of development opportunities, increased risk for investment, and worrying health issues. Environmental degradation and poverty are mutually re-enforcing in the area, creating a vicious cycle that can only be addressed through a combined approach of development, peatlands rehabilitation and conservation. CARE, partnering with other organisations, worked to rehabilitate the land and improve the live of the surrounding communities.
Towards a better life
Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) is one of the most disaster-prone provinces in Indonesia. Severe drought and flood as a result of the El-Nino weather phenomenon, and frequent reappearance of malaria, diarrheal diseases and acute respiratory infections in this area have left the inhabitants of the eastern provinces in Indonesia in need of sincere help more than ever. CARE is helping the communities as they struggle for a better life.
Working together to rebuild Aceh
Two years after the tsunami, life is slowly returning to normal in Aceh. Markets are bustling, families are moving into new homes, and survivors look to the future with new hope. Meet the people of Aceh as they work to recover and rebuild their homes, communities and lives.
Java Earthquake
When the earthquake struck the island of Java May 27, 2006, it destroyed homes and villages and killed more than 5,700 people. CARE is working together with the survivors to help them rebuild their lives and communities.
